Yesterday I led a tour to a local cave for a cleanup.  Along the way, I saw some amazing desert wildflowers and some desert critters.

I've attached a few images.  Enjoy!

Brilliant orange wildflower probably California poppy (Eschscholzia californica).

This sort of looks like a dandelion, but more course, more rugged, than the types I remember from the Midwest. It is a Desert Chicory (Rafinesquia neomexicana).

This white flower is home to a red/black insect. It, too, is a Desert Chicory (Rafinesquia neomexicana).

What desert photo portfolio is complete without a lizard? It is thought that the lizard is a Greater Earless Lizard (Cophosaurus texanus).

Blue desert flowers that remind me of columbines. These are some type of larkspur, (Delphinium) sp.

A nearly perfect flower.  This yellow flower is similar to the white one with the red/black bug. It is a Desert Dandelion (Malacothrix californica).

Purple flower with fuzzies. It is thought that this is some sort of legume.

Cave frog.  Note how it blends with the rock upon which it sits.

Red desert flower.

As we were hiking back, this desert vole on the trail started heading right for me.

Look within the green thornscrub and see a white tail deer.

A blooming ocotillo.

Fuzzy seed-like plant with miniature white flowers.
