back to 2006 Big Bend National Park
My comrades on the path: Alisha, Amanda, John T., and Tina.
A monarch butterfly is on the right. The butterflies on this
trip were not very willing to have their photos taken.
A nice lady took a group shot for us at the end of the trail, at least as far as we went. I reciprocated the effort
by taking a photo with her camera for her and her family. I also cleaned her lens for her.
We headed out of Santa Elena Canyon back to the vehicle.
Driving along Old Maverick Road, and unimproved road, we came upon Luna's Jacal.
Pictured is Gilberto Luna who raised a large family in a small home called a "Jacal."
(See Luna's Jacal sign)
This is the Jacal, side view, while Tina peers inside.
Inside Luna's Jacal.
A budding Prickly Pear cactus pad. This is one of my favorite pictures of the trip.
Final trip day, we made our last stop at the Stillwell store. Stillwell's was a great place to
camp because:
- You could have a campfire (can't in Big Bend).
- You get to use the shower facilities.
- Reasonably clean restrooms.
- The people who owned/worked there were very friendly.
