Alisha sits in the smooth limestone of "The Window" gazing at the view. Earlier we witnessed a boy slip and fall
a little further up due to the slipperiness of this smooth rock. Fortunately, he didn't fall at the dangerous drop.
After resting at "The Window," we started heading back then took the fork in the trail to Oak Spring Trail
which veers off near the end of the Window Trail. We hiked the trail for about a 1/4 mile to a point
above the actual window. There was a spectacular panoramic view behind her.
And here is more of that view. The trail continued, and I thought that it might bring
us to the water tank in the distance. The group consensus was that we had enough, so we headed back.

On a related note, I found a pair of old-time aviator sunglasses atop the rock next to where
Alisha was seated in the previous shot. We guessed they might belong to the guy whom we
saw at "The Window" and later at this very spot while were were ascending. Alisha and I
discussed whether it was better to take the glasses under the assumption that we would
see the guy as we headed back, or to leave them thinking the guy would come back.
I decided to take them. When I finished the hike out to the trailhead, I saw the man's
wife and son (same boy who slipped at "The Window") sitting at a campsite near the trailhead
waiting for the husband to pick them up with the vehicle. She asked me if I had seen any
sunglasses which reminded me that I was indeed carrying them. She was very thankful. She
had just bought these expensive sunglasses for her husband and felt sick that he had lost
them. It was quite apparent that he had no intention to go back to the rock to get them.
My karma was good this day.
While hiking back, I saw a glimmer of the richest red below the path.
It took a little scrambling to get down there, but I got a great shot
of this lone Claret Cup cactus flower.
Claret cup cactus flower.
While I was down there, I saw this furry cactus with flowers.
This is a resurrection fern. Getting some water, this fern will open up and thrive. While it is dry, it
assumes the fetal position. I am very pleased with this photograph. I am using the full-size image
for my Windows wallpaper.
This is a rather bold squirrel in a tree. I was able to get very close before it paid heed to me.
