back to 2006 Big Bend National Park
The first night had a moon that was full and bright, so we took pictures of it.
My flash went off to illuminate the brush.
We camped outside the National Park at a place called Stillwell's. Amanda
took care of purchasing community foods for dinners. These dinners spoiled
us.
Next morning, we ventured into the Big Bend National Park. At the nearby entrance of Persimmons Gap,
there is a place you can place cell phone calls. Alisha places a call.
Flowering creosote at Persimmons Gap. These are my first views in the
National Park, and already I am excited.
Big Bend is a BIG park. Driving times from the Persimmons Gap entrance to any destination can take
one to two hours, especially if the destination requires off pavement driving.
After about twenty minutes of driving, I saw a pullout for a roadside attraction.
"Anybody want to see it?" Someone said yes, so we stopped.
This particular area was a wash. As you can see by the dryness and the bushes, it
hasn't rained in awhile.
One viable metric for determining the nature of a group of people is if they will
pose for group shots. This was a great bunch of folk in this regard.
From left to right: Amanda, Tina, John T., Alisha, Tone.
Further up the road, we stopped to see a ridgeline sporting a sandstone turret and what appeared
to be a cinder cone, but was not. More on the cinder cone soon.
We stretched our legs for a bit. Here is John T. walking in the desert.
The desert holds many interesting flora. This is a yucca.
