back to 2006 Big Bend National Park
The drive to Big Bend from Austin takes about eight hours. I drove the first part, and Alisha
offered to drive so I relaxed in the back awhile. Here is Alisha driving my car when we
finally approach our destination of Big Bend National Park. It was nice to see mountains again.
Through the side window of my car, I took another shot of mountains. Note the firewood we brought along.
After a long driving trip, it is nice to unwind. John T. takes a moment to relax with a beer. Alisha and I took off to investigate
the hills while giving John some time to blow up his air mattress.
The Chihuahua desert has many varieties of cacti.
Alisha finds a nest in a tree. She takes a moment to investigate it.
A violet cactus. Is this a purple colored species, or just a prickly pear under stress?
A freshly budding ocotillo in the desert. Ocotillos have green stripes on their
bark for photosynthesis.
Alisha takes photos of the ocotillo.
This ocotillo has some buds that are flowering.
