The deck is actually made out of wood. I wasn't sure at first because there is so much tar coating it. I asked one of the volunteers who said "of course it is made out of wood, otherwise the ship wouldn't float." I acquiesced without rebuttal.

The arrestor (catches the planes that land) uses a hydraulic accumulator.

Back on the flight deck is an arrestor connection. There were four of these, I think.
