River boat
Delta Queen Model

Ken Thomsen of Davenport built this model of the excursion boat Delta Queen from a photograph. The approximately 3/8-inc to 1-foot scale model took him about 5,000 hours during a 5 1/2-year period. Except for the flags and banners, he handmade all the pieces mostly from oak, with birch, walnut, and brass accents.

The model has 327 wood posts and 1405 brass posts in the railing and stairs, 144 windows and 53 doors. It is a completely "seaworthy" working model, with a remote control car motor and batteries to turn the paddle wheel, work the rudder, and power the navigational and pilot house lights.

Loaned by Ken Thomsen.

Trucks
Back on the road again, we saw a sign for the "World's Largest Truck Stop." I looked around for these "Large Trucks," but they looked like regular trucks to me.
