Cartonnage Mask
After this mummy had been partially wrapped with linen, the mask was placed over the head and further wrapping
continued to anchor it in place. The various symbols and igures painted on the mask were expected to provide
protection for the deceased. The four "Genii" of the dead are shown: On the right side of the head are
Tuamutef (as a jackal-headed mummy), and Amset, (human-headed). On the left side are Hapi, (ape-headed),
and Kebhsnauf (hawk-headed).
