Mummy of the chantress Isis-Nerferit. Her name means beautiful Isis. She was the singer of chants in the
Temple of Isis, sometime between 1730 and 1085 B.C., 18th to 20th Dynasties. At death her age was 25 to 28 years, and height
about 5 feet 2 inches. The mummy was unwrapped here in 1966.
Isis-Nerferit's Coffin.
Ancient Egyptian coffins were decorated with figures of the gods and goddesses and with religious texts to protect and assist the deceased.
The goddess Isis is shown at the foot of this coffin.
The Vulture painted across the chest of the coffin probably represents the protection offered by Maut.
The painted Feathered Collar is a symbol of the god Horus.
On the sides of the coffin, the central standing figure is Anubis, the jackal-headed 'Lord of the Burying Ground.' The hieroglyphic test to the left of the Anubis contains a part of his traditional speech.
Anubis is flanked on either side by one of the Four Genii who preside over internal organs. The Genii are all shown with human heads and each gives a short speech in the text.
Another coffin.
Udjat sacred eye, scarabs, and other jewelry/icons.
