The story:

I received an message from my website from one Claire D. who lives in Scotland. She was searching the web for friends she knew, one Katie Wokosin, and came across my Scotland 2000 travel site. She asked if I knew how to contact them. I fired off an E-mail to David, a colleague and friend in college, at his last known E-mail address. After a week of not hearing from him, I fired off another E-mail to a mutual friend and colleague, Jeff Long. Not hearing from him, I started my own search using Google.

My search yielded interesting results. It seems that David is now employed in Chicago, and has been stateside for nearly a year. With my life in flux over the past year, I sort of lost touch with the Wokosins and didn't even realize they had returned.

Through an odd quirk of fate, a friend of mine in Omaha, one Jen J., had a wedding to attend in the Chicago area, and had room for me to accompany her. Both Jen and I took Friday off to head east along the I-80. The drive was estimated shy of eight hours by MapQuest, but Jen and I took a few diversions along the way. Also, Chicago traffic is pretty nasty in some areas.

We arrived at the Wokosins' around 6:30 p.m., had some dinner, played some cards, and reminisced. Jen then took off to the Hyatt Regent where she already had a reservation. I spent the next day and a half with David, Katie, Kevin, and Andrew. Sunday I was dropped off in Sycamore, IL where Jen was waiting. The six of had lunch at Subway, then Jen and I headed back to Omaha. One the way back, Jen and I stopped at the Putnam Museum and Iowa 80—the largest truck stop in the world.

I arrived home after ten and was asleep at 11:00 p.m. Jen had been sick from the onset of the trip, and I picked up the bug. I went to work Monday morning, but soon realized that I couldn't concentrate, so I went back home.
