Both of us on Picacho Peak.
Heading back down, Julie asked me to take a picture of the handrails. Nothing I would
want to traverse at night, but they weren't too bad. Julie may have a different
opinion on this.
Eventually we made it to Tucson, found a swap meet, had some dinner, found a place to crash,
then decided to head downtown. The downtown area is sort of a bust. It's all government
buildings and parks that close at dark.
We walked around a bit and took some pictures although, as I later found out, we weren't
supposed to be in the parks after dark.
While taking this shot, I noticed some security dude looking at us. Julie and I
boogied out of there. It was shortly after that I saw the sign that the park
was closed at dark.
Julie drinks a little wine before bed. I took this shot as she swigged it
straight from the bottle.
Monday, we headed to the west side of Tucson. First stop: Tucson Mountain Park, a
20,000 - acre Sonoran desert natural preserve located a few miles west of Tucson.
TMP holds one of the most magnificent saguaro forests in the world.
Julie and I will always remember TMP because of the Teddy Bear Cholla.
This was the most rigorous of the hikes Julie and I did while in Arizona.
There was ample uphill, lots of nasty Teddy Bear Cholla, and at the end
a spectacular view of Tucson.
Tone with spires behind him. Why am I pursing my lips?
The last 40 feet of the climb was technical. Julie opted against it, and I
don't blame her. I reached a saddle to behold this view to the East of
Tucson.
