Julie and I flew out of Omaha on Southwest Airlines, Saturday January 1st. I tried doing the
crossword puzzle and snoozed a bit.
Our first stop was Las Vegas. It was refreshing to see some mountains for a change.
As is usually the case, the flight out of Vegas was delayed.
Another shot of Vegas. You can see billboards for casinos. I had never been in the
Vegas airport before, although I once picked up JD here in my car.
Julie had booked our first night at the Super 8 in Phoenix. The price was
about $55. Later I found out their regular rates are $99. One nice thing
about this place is that it was owned by the same owners at the Days Inn
next door. This meant we could use their swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
Afterward, Julie blow dries her hair.
Julie blow dries hair as we prepare for fine dining at the Jack in the Box drive through.
Sunday morning, we started our drive toward Tucson; I was designated driver.
Along the way, we stopped at Casa Grande National Monument. I had been here
not too long ago, specifically 2004 Feb 21, with my brother and Dick.
Up, up and away in my beautiful balloon.
Tone and Julie pose next to a saguaro. At least, I think it is a saguaro. I
don't really remember, and I can't tell from the picture what the spines look
like.
We arrived at Casa Grande when it opened at 8:00am, which meant very few people
were looking around. There were two movies with a total length of 20 minutes
that we saw. Julie is pictured in the theater.
The Hohokam Native American culture flourished from about the 3rd century B.C. to the
mid-15th century A.D. in south-central Arizona. They were noted for the construction
of an extensive system of irrigation canals.
They also made this pot.
