Tina left shortly before dawn; David was also ready to depart that morning. Joe and Bill left about an hour after David.
Then there was only Tone and Tim.
First on the agenda:
bouldering! Tim and I headed south toward the granite boulders next to the radio tower.
The radio tower was up a steep incline. I was surprised at just how steep it became when the front tires
of the rental car started slipping on the granite. We made it, though.
Tone tackles a power pole. That was as far up as I would go. Why? It was really windy, and although
I think they put the lag bolts in pretty far, one of them was just a little loose. Better safe than
sorry—I had nothing to prove.
The tallest rock shown in this picture was our destination, although we never did make it. We came close. On
the backside was a crack that looked do-able, but again it was pretty windy, and I wasn't going to do something stupid.
A blue flower. Lynne says it is a phacelia campanularia, "desert blue bell," which is a
California native.
Tim found all sorts of little bones which he collected into a pile.
This one looked to be a jaw bone.
Funky plant. I have no idea what this is.
Tim stands next to a very tall thistle.
