Hiking the Teutonia Peak trail—one of two maintained trails in the Preserve—, we came across a filled mine. Kyle walked across a precariously
perched timber.
Taylor also takes on the timber.
This is indeed mining country. Further up, there is a fenced off mine with open mine shafts.
Note the mine shaft.
A cocoon with many caterpillars. These caterpillars are constantly in motion, bending back and forth.
A lizard on a rock with lichens. I snaked this story about lichens from some web site.
The mutualistic symbiotic relationship in lichens can be described in the story of Freddie and Alice.
Freddie Fungus was a fun guy. Alice Algae was all-gal. They took a lichen to each other. Of course
Alice's mother thoroughly disproved of this relationship as they were living in synbiosis.
Freddie built the house and did the shopping, while Alice stayed home and did the cooking. When they first
got together, they went out on a limb. But rumor has it that their relationship is going on the rocks.

Tina takes my picture with my camera on Teutonia Peak. Am I emulating Rodin's "The Thinker," or am I just
pressing really hard on my chin? You decide.
I always have to have a posed shot.
David relaxes on a rock outcropping on Teutonia Peak. David and I have been on several trips together
including Joshua Tree, Anza Borrego, and other trips to Mojave National Preserve.
