For Monday we decided to take it easy. Julie was still feeling the effects
of Saturday's hike and thought she might get shin splints. We opted for
checking out some of the local sights around Jackson.
We started at the National Elk Refuge, which had no Elk to be seen.
Terri said that she has never seen an Elk on her many bike rides
through the area. Apparently it wasn't the season.
We went on two hikes in/near the refuge. There were all sorts of
flora, including tall pines. We hiked for a few hours, then hunger
became an issue. We headed back to Jackson for breakfast at 2:00pm.
I knew we had to do the requisite picture at the Elk Antler Arches.
Terri kept pointing them out to Julie and me whenever we went past.
One of the most photographed attractions in the city of Jackson,
we acquiesced to their charm. Notice that I wasn't in this shot.
Terri or Julie, I forget which, said "you could have someone take
a shot for us." I don't recall why I said this, because it isn't
really true, but the following spouted from my mouth: "no way man,
I don't trust anyone with my camera as far as I can spit."
I think this is a buffalo. No, not me, the thing on the right.
The Gros Ventre Slide created a stunning lake that had trees
sticking out of it. There was an interpretive trail that we
first walked around.
Damage from the slide in the background of my two companions.
This is the money shot. Lower Slide Lake with painted red cliffs. I
made this into a wallpaper for my computer at work.
JD from Santa Barbara pointed out the uncanny similarity between
this lake and Copco Lake, a place I have vacationed frequently.

We walked around the lake for a bit. There is a campground near the lake
that had a few canoes. We joked about "borrowing" one for a quick lake
getaway.
