We picked up a Hyundai Accent from Dollar rental which, although
not the most sophisticated vehicle, suited our purpose. I was designated driver
because Dave did not want to drive in Chicago—I don't blame him. Dave did
an admirable job of navigation.
I did come to a realization, or perhaps even an epiphany, that I
no longer feel the butterflies or apprehension of flying to a
strange town and driving the streets. I think this relaxed mode
comes from the many adventures I have undertaken.
The hotel was the Comfort Suites in Lombard. Dave holds an imaginary onion
which makes his eyes wince.
The room was nice for the price. We even had Roman pillars right in our own room!
When Dave pointed this out to me, I mentioned to him that my cell phone has a mode
like that. He said in a slightly confused manner, "Roman Mode?" He skipped a beat,
then got it. "Roaming Mode." The bad jokes/puns were just beginning. It was like
old times.
For the next hour or two, Dave and I used the hot tub/pool facilities at the
Comfort Suites while waiting for Tom H. to arrive. The hot tub jets were a tragedy.
Tom H. hangs out in our palatial room.
A shot of Dave and Tom.
Tom was hungry, and since we had some time to kill, we went foraging for food. Along the way,
we came across this sign. We piled out of the Hyundai for pictures, of course.
The humor of the picture comes from the previously mentioned joke/pun about my cell phone having
"Roman Mode," ergo you see the three of us holding our cell phones. The real humor in this picture
lies within the shadows. It appears that I am Rodin's "The Thinker" with a hunched back, and Tom is
trying to touch the hunch. Gee, that sounds like a good song title: "Touch The Hump."

You tell me.
At this point, we decided to take a fun shot. I took a picture of Dave and Tom
jumping up behind the Roman sign. Then a shot of me was taken of me behind
the Roman sign. Dave created a composite picture of the three of us.
There was only one tree behind us.
