About 20 minutes later I suggested that we head back because Joe and Bill were waiting
for us. Then we couldn't find Tom. Jay looks into the gorge to find Tom. Tom was
only a few minutes behind; he had found a tortoise shell and brought it for us
to investigate.
On parting shot of the mud cliffs. What a fascinating area.
We reached the trailhead for the Fort Piute hike. Along the way was this
Beavertail cactus flower.
You can see cholla, barrel cacti, and yucca along the route.
There were a bunch of fake petroglyphs followed by some that were more realistic.

It is hard to believe how green these trees are. Where there is water, there is green, and often
forts.
