Solar panels are so blue.
I decided to have a seat and eat some lunch. As I was sitting down, I accidentally
kicked the registry box. I doubt I would have seen it otherwise. I opened it up
cautiously, because you can never be too careful with boxes on hilltops.
Memo book inside. I left my name and the date. What do people do with these
books?
There was a geographic marker, so this hill is legit. 1808 feet. El Montanon. Woo hoo!
I needed to make an executive decision at this point: do I head back, or continue and
circle back around Smugglers Cove? I figured that I had enough time, so I decided
to trek down unknown terrain. This trail is part of that unknown terrain.
Blooms (not bloops). This is the Santa Cruz Island Ironwood (
Lyonothamnus floribundis ssp. aspleniifolius),
an endemic to the channel islands. Its the official Santa Barbara county tree, and the leaves make up the
logo for the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. The Chumash used the wood for harpoons & canoe paddles.
