I ran a rectangular magnet over the sand to pick up the mineral Magnetite, a.k.a.
Fe
3O
4 or Iron Oxide.
Excellent circle pattern made by a single strand of something blowing in the wind.
Barren wasteland: Dave and Joe head toward the 600 foot dune.
On the way up I saw bird tracks. This is one footprint. This shot also
shows the constituency of the sand which is largely rose quartz peppered
with magnetite, amphibole, and a host of other minor members.
Dave resting on the dune spine.
Cracks in the sand, probably causes by the added weight of rain water.
