back to Angeles National Forest 2003
I've never been in the Angeles National Forest before. I was to meet my group at 3:30pm
and I was already five minutes late, but nature's call can be deferred only so long.
The view of Los Angeles was quite intriguing. These two photos don't quite capture
what I saw.
Los Angeles from Angeles National Forest.
After some debate, the consensus was to hole-up at Chilao Recreation Area (car camp) to
wait out the weather. On the way there it started to snow a bit, and it was beginning
to get cold. This is our campsite.
Janet uses the many-layer technique to stay warm and dry. She and Chris are looking
in the direction of Emily's tent.
The park host came by to tell us that there are bears and that our campsite
is their favorite. Janet decided to share my tent; I suspect she thought
that I would be eaten first. Either Janet was cold or she was trying to
transform into a butterfly—you decide.
The plan shifted to another night of car camping; the Saturday group was
to meet us later in the morning. Having some time, Kyle, Huskey, and I
went for a short hike. Kyle does some GPS work.
