back to 2004 Platte River State Park
Lotto and I decided to check out Platte River State Park. On the
way there we saw a sign that said "Platte River Connection Bridge."
We figured it might be a way into the park, but it was not.
Along the way we saw this horse in a distant field. This picture
was taken at maximum zoom and the focus wasn't quite right.
Along the path to the Platte River bridge were flowers. Lynne from San
Francisco tells me that this is a:
Gaillardia pulchella
(gah-LAR-dee-ah pul-KEL-uh or pull-SELL-ah)
Indian Blanket, Blanket Flower, Firewheel
Flower.
Blue flowers.
Red flower. Lynne says this is a Purple Poppy Mallow, but it doesn't look
purple to me.
Red flower closeup.
The path upon which we were walking was an old railroad right-of-way.
This was a historical railroad signal called the "Rock Island Signal."
(See sign details)
Eventually, we made it to the Lied Platte River bridge. There is a biking/walking trail going
into Omaha and further into Nebraska of which this bridge is a part. The trail goes
behind Lotto's apartment. If he ever gets a bike, we can bike the path.
