Driving toward Sioux City I saw this obelisque along the roadside. I took
the picture while Lotto drove.
This obelisque apparently replaced a large cedar needle marking the grave of Sgt. Charles Floyd,
the only member of the crew to die during the Lewis and Clark Expedition, 20th of August 1804.
(Thanks to Lynne for the history.)
I wasn't doing a good job of navigating, so we missed the turn and entered the city of Sioux City.
We went maybe five miles into the city before turning around to catch the 20.
We entered the park and stopped at the headquarters to get a map
and hike descriptions. Our first destination was the three state overlook.
(See overlook sign)
Across the Missouri River is South Dakota. Further is Iowa. The third was Nebraska, the state we
were in. Note the cement pillar in the water. My guess is that it was an old railroad bridge.
A shot to the right: South Dakota.
A shot to the left: South Dakota.
