Nebraska — Indian Cave State Park 2004
Summary
Nebraska — Indian Cave State Park (2004 Jul 11)
Lotto has a goal of seeing all Nebraska state parks. This is
as good a reason as any to get out and do something.
I had looked through a website for Nebraska state parks and
the name "Indian Cave State Park" caught my attention right
away. Having been in caves and lava tubes before, I thought
this would be an interesting diversion. It turns out that
the cave is actually just a big chunk of sandstone.
Even so, the trek south to the state park was an enjoyable
excursion. The weather was hot but sunny, and the hiking
was mostly covered anyway. Sarah packed us a lunch that
couldn't be beat. And we saw Pamida! What more could you
ask for?
Indian Cave State Park is on the Missouri River near the
town of Shubert. There is camping, hiking, and exploring,
but no cabins. It was 1.5 to 2 hours drive from my
place in Omaha.

The Indian Cave supposedly was Huge at one time and owned by a man around here the state wanted to buy his land he was furious & blew up the cave leaving only the sandstone you see today. there is one other tiny entrance to the cave but people arent allowed to hike up & see it. Supposedly from listen to grandmas & grandpas it really was a neat cave @ one time.
