Before entering the Katherine and Fred Buffett Forest Learning Center, you
see this pond. The flamingo is bronze or iron or something; it isn't alive.
This is the Katherine and Fred Buffett Forest Learning Center. I went
inside to pay my $6 fee.
Since it is June, the buds are all flowering or have flowered.
There was a bat exhibit. I thought they did a nice job with these
scuptures. I think the idea is that kids could touch them to
get a better sense of what the bats are like. There little yellowish
strip right under the head is in braille. This is a Wrinkle-face bat.
Long-tailed bat.
Horse shoe bat.
Having gone through the bat exhibit, I went downstairs to the Habitat room.
This area is geared primarily for kids. In the background was soothing
nature sounds (running water) with classical music. It was really peaceful,
at least for the moment since no kids were around.
Off to the left was a dark room that I almost didn't see. Walking
into it was like walking into another world. It was a night-pond
with all sorts of levers that let you play different sounds like
crickets, owls, wolves, and other night sounds.
Finished with the Habitat room, I started exploring around the
building. I came upon this metal chair, which I thought was
cool.
