Omaha — Fontenelle Forest 2004
Summary
Omaha — Fontenelle Forest (2004 Jun 12)
A Saturday morning with sunshine found me thinking of things
to do. A colleague mentioned Fontenelle last Friday, so I
thought I would give it a go.
I arrived around 11:00am and went to the "Katherine and Fred Buffett Forest
Learning Center." That's a mouthful. It cost $7 to get in; $6 if you have
a AAA card. Of course they immediately pounce on you to become a member.
The learning center is geared more for kids than adults, but I took
a look at the bat exhibit and went downstairs to see the habitat
display.
Then I made my way to the hiking trails, which was the real reason I
was there. The hiking trails are well maintained, several miles
of which are actually boardwalk. There are maps telling you where
you are and signs along the way.
I walked around the woods for awhile enjoying the butterflies,
but not enjoying the mosquitos. They weren't too bad; I only
received three bites inside an hour. Eventually I made it to
the Missouri River.
