This is a closeup of what I believe to be a pencil cholla.
More pools along the stream bed.
Kern and Dave consider whether to continue following the creekbed while Susy looks at the camera.
This was the precarious section of the hiking. We needed to turn back or climb this. We climbed it.
This largish pool was relative clear and perhaps a few feet deep. In warmer weather, it
may have been fun to take a dip.
Birds nest in the Saguaro cactus. The 2" spines form a vertiable fortress
against predators.
