back to Whirlpool Cave
After scrambling around for some time in Whirlpool Cave, we made it
to the Travis County Room for a respite. Kara told us some details
about the cave, about a guy who wants to dig for new passages, and
even a bit about the geology.
The gentleman in the green shirt and yellow helmet used a carbide lamp.
Carbide lamps (acetylene lamps) are simple lamps that produce and burn acetylene
gas by reacting calcium carbide with water.
The cavers are blurry because of the humidity of area. You can see
your breath.
